Yeah I been drinkin, SO!?
Anyhow, I'm making more rap music lately, and I was curious what kind fx chain usually goes on it. Keep in mind I can't change my: mic, rapper (me), or room.
I can't say exact;y what I don't like about it, just doesn't seem as lively or spacious as pro recordings. I know that's probably a crappy description, and I know I'm not going to achieve pro results with my crappy consumer grade gear, but what do others do? So far I'm using some mild compression and a little eq, sometimes an upper-mid bump and sometimes scooped out, and sometimes a unison but *slightly* offset track (either in pitch, time, or both). And I usually double the track. So far any reverb I try makes me cringe.
Any help would be great, thanks!
sorry, I should be clear, I'm only talking about the vocal here, I like how the rest of the mix sounds just fine... makes me wish I could mix the vox directly in reason with the rest of the beat. I'd have paid an extra $50 at least if propellerhead let you record live audio in...
