I've been surfing around this board for a while now and can't find the solution to my exact situation, so hopefully someone out there can clue me in.
I'm getting involved in a recording project with guys spreadout all over the world. The guy who is getting it together is using Logic Platinum on a Mac in the UK. He intends to send me files (i think in aiff, but maybe mp3) that I then laysome tracks on and send back for mixing. Sounds fun.
I've got a 450mhz PIII with 192 MB RAM. I just installed a new h/d on ultraATA/100 w/ 30g of space. I still use the 10g ultraATA/66 the computer came with as a boot disk. My computer came a Turtle Beach Montego somethin or other sound card.
My main questions at this time:
1) Do I need to drop >$400 on a sound card? I'm primarily a bass player, will only ever do single channel recording (will never input more than one channel at a time). If I do any guitar or VOX recording, it will just be for scratch tracks, that I will go back and lay final bass cuts over.
2) Pro Audio? Cubase VST? Cubase VST/32? Cubasis? Any other products out there that would fit my needs? I'm not a rich man, so the less money I spend the better, but I need to make sure that I deliver quality sounds.
Thanks for helping me out.
