Howdy,

I posted this question and for the first time, got NO answer! C'mon, help a guy out!

What type (ie mic, inst, spkr) cable should be used from

recording:
tape deck to digital recorder or mixer
CD RW to digital recorder or mixer
digital recorder or mixer to tape deck

Live
Snake to amp
tape deck/CD to mixer

and could somebody go through the watt / ohm thing (calculating your amp for your speakers and stuff like that)? It still hasn't sunk in!

Why did you not get an answer? Because your question(s) are unanswerable without a LOT more information.

Your specifications are a bit too vague. You mention all the devices, but you do not mention what kind of output/input any of them have or require.

Look for terms like: "line level", "balanced", "unbalanced","+4", "-10"....

Then theres jacks/plugs: 1/4" mono, 1/4" TS, 1/4" Stereo, 1/4" TRS, XLR, RCA, 1/8" Mono.....

The answer to "How do I hook up a Tape Deck to a Digital Recorder" depends on the tape deck and digital recorder you are planning to hook up. They are all a bit different.....

OK,
thanks for at least replying!

ON the recording setup (deck to recorder, CD RW to recorder, recorder to deck)
everything into the recorder would be 1/4, line /mic is up to how it's set. Everything out of the CD, tape deck, and recorder is RCA.

I guess it's more of a concept question. Meaning when would you use a speaker cable versus an instrument cable (in the recording setup) and why? Right now I'm using instrument cable for the whole deal (including recorder to monitors; it's a DPS 16, BTW) and everything works fine. I just wanted to know if I wasn't "optimized" if you will.

ON the live side I've got a few problems with the sound system at the church, and so again, it's a concept question. For instance, from amp to speaker I know would be a speaker cable (thought I don't really know why) but from the snake (mic connections) to the amp (some are "mic" ins, some speakon, some banana, some 1/4...there's four amps) what are the determining factors there.

On the connector deal, I've got the info on what wire to what pin, ground, chassis ground, etc. (from a Rane link) so I'm cool on that end. Truth is I've done more soldering than I would have ever thought just between getting stuff set up at home and replacing or repairing cables at the church.

Hope that's enough info

Thanks

D out ITNOJ
