OK, I put a Lo-Fi whoopin' on the spoken word part and brought the volume down, EQ'd the bass a little, and lowered the whisper voice. Here's the new file. Better, worse? Here's the new link:

Love the telephone effect so two thumbs up from me on that....

The only thing that comes to mind is (on headphones) the difference between verse and chorus vocals. The verse is lo-fi thin, and the chorus is so clear/thick. It's not bad it's just sort of different production wise. I'm trying to think how Admiral Halsey handled that - maybe eq. In any case it sounds excellent....love the song too....

I've been to Galway, we have an office there (Saville/ADC/INTEC)....

yes! the lo fi telephone effect works pretty well i think. i do think the clean vocals part comes in late in the verse to chorus transition. i think the clean vocals part should come in when he says "will bring a harp of gold" same for the second transition he says something else but its the same rhythm. the whisper part sounds good too.

good stuff.

Thanks guys. I wasn't sure I'd like the lo-fi effect, but it's kinda growing on me. I'll work a little more on the transition.

that's exactly what I was thinking. I feel like fading in the clean/fading out the lo-fi on "Gold"/"Song" would sound great and help make the transition more coherent.

I think the banjo could come up just a smidgen in a couple parts. I really like that part, and there's a couple places where I think it gets a bit soft... but that's nit picking.

Overall though, fantastic job man. Good stuff :D

Odd that you should say that. I've just been thinking that when I get home tonight, I'd do exactly that. The banjo is purposely low. To me banjo is best in very light doses. Too much can be overpowering. I'd prefer people to hear the song and think "Is that a banjo I hear?". Anyway. Thanks for the input.

Whoa, this is really sweet. So many interesting things going on, but so nicely recorded and spaced. The phone line effect is cool, but it might be worth a try mixing it together with a second track using a more conventional vox eq shape, and then maybe panning the lo-fi track to one side. Just an idea. Really cool either way. :)

Thanks, I'm definitely going to mess around with it more. I'll try your idea too. Of course the singer has the final say.

Hey nice song mate. I like the switch up between the spoken word and singing, something i haven't really heard before. Good stuff.
