A broken rib (too old to play rugby) and a wisdom tooth extraction (way too old to have that) has been getting in the way of actually putting stuff down to record but any comments on these two songs’ lyric would be appreciated.
Cheers
Burt
This is in the kind of Eagles up tempo country come ‘Brown eyed’ girl’ zone.
The Guitar Shop (Burt Crow 2010-09-23)
1.
I wish I could go back to New Mexico
When loving was fast and dancing was slow
To that music store when you walked in the door
Looking for work I couldn’t ignore
How your hands trembled as you played
That old 12-string that never sold but was always on sale
Ch
At the guitar shop, you were my first love song
At the guitar shop, but you stringing me along
A girl like you from that side of town, wouldn’t slow down couldn’t stop
For a boy like me, with crazy dreams of Country and Rock
At the guitar shop, at the guitar shop
2.
You’d work Saturday, we make a few sales
But mostly we’d laugh, we’d sing and we’d play
When we shut up late I couldn’t wait
To walk you home and there at your gate
Your hands trembled as we kissed
I closed my eyes and I thought that we would always be like this
Ch
Bridge
You left me for the boy most likely
The football star from Albuquerque, how you hurt me
So I took my guitar and my broken heart
Took the road to Tennessee
My last pay cheque it got spent
On ‘Jack’ and chasing dreams, I’m still chasing dreams
3
Saw an old friend from home, He said you’re all alone
It seems Mister Right after 5 years went wrong
You asked if I’m well and if life in Nashville
Was as good as the dream I should call you and tell
Now my hands tremble all I dial
Then I hear your voice like the melody of those songs that made us smile
Ch (alt)
At the guitar shop, you’re still my first love song
At the guitar shop, could you sing along
A girl like you left that side of town, needs to slow down maybe stop
For a boy like me, with crazy dreams of Country and Rock
And a guitar shop,
Come on by my guitar shop
Our guitar shop
This is a bit darker on the Nick Cave side of country
What does that make me? (Burt Crow 2010-09-23)
1
A heart still as hot as the main field burning
Now the harvest is lost and he’s not returning
The smoke from the field goes south like he did
The she falls to her knees and cries in the ashes
Ch
Says, What does that make me, What does that make me
If you’re a lie, If you’re not true,
If you’re just a dream that I dreamt of you
You’re a travelling salesman selling false memories
A sideshow magician who put a spell on me
What does that make me, when you made me, complete?
When you made me.
2
She sits in the chair that his own hands crafted
Oh he loved here then, but sometimes she doubts it
Gone are the flames the whole field is steaming
But she don’t feel the rain. Inside she screaming
Ch
Bridge
Your lighten strike, your fire storm
No signs of life in the debris
I thought you were love I was so wrong
What does make me now your gone
Ch (alt)
Cause you’re a lie, You’re not true,
You’re just a dream and I was a fool
You’re a travelling salesman selling false memories
A sideshow magician who put a spell on me
What does that make me, when you made me, complete?
When you made me.
Cheers
