two mxl 990 for entire mic set

I am thinking of getting two MXL 990 of my drum micing needs. From what I've read on here, two condensers as over heads should give me some good result.

Opinions please before I invest my cash.
 
What style of music?

As overheads, or an XY or ORTF pair out in front of the kit, you'd probably get a decent image for pop, folk, jazz, and similar music. The 990s supposedly have the same capsule as the much liked 603s. If you're doing hard rock/metal, you'll probably want more control over the snare and kick. Start with the overheads and see where they get you. You could then add mics to fill in any holes, if needed. Placement will be paramount in your case.
