it sounds boring you need to use 8 mics to bring out some life to the drums and pan the toms so it can play around with my head, well its a good recording but if you dont got enough money to buy more cables, mics, or stands thats a good tip you gave out.

can you try it with the b1 as the overhead and keep the kick with the 57?.....

Buy an ATM25 for your kick and put the SM57 on your snare, and use the B1 as your overhead.

I dissagree that you need 8 mics to "bring out some life" in the drums. I have heard recordings with set-ups similar to what DJL suggested (3 mics) that sound full and open and "alive." Panning isn't always needed, especially in a heavy mix where it can just complicate things. Sometimes mono drums sound better IMO. And if you're set on stereo, add another sp b1 to DJL's line-up and you've got a killer stero sound. I like to point one mic (the sp b1's) over each of the drummers shoulders, and then put the sm57 on the snare and the kick mic on...where else...the kick. There are a ton of recordings out there with this set up and I think it sounds awesome.

2 mics is a little tight (but not at all impossible), but 3 mics is enough to get a decent recording for 90% of the drum kits out there. 5 mics is pretty normal for me, some times I go wild and use 8. I think I used about 12 or 13 for Terry Bozzio.

i was thinking this punksoholics was jokin here.. right?

drums sound pretty good to me. sound boring... PROCESS... pick aux out the b1, smash it up and mix that back in.

prolly good enough. your room sounds decent enough for business. better than mine no doubt... for a home recording your drums sound great. go ahead and make some music.

I've had excellent results with one mic on drums!

It's nice to have choices in the mix, and you should if you're getting p-zaid in most cases so you can acheive the sound your client wants.

I agree that if you can't afford anything else, put that condensor overhead and the 57 in the kick.

yea, well mr. aea r84! we aint all so lucky as you!

anyway, me of school that prefers condenser out near the kick (3 feet in front and 3 feet up) and dynamic 6 feet up and out 6 feet. phasing problems? just adjust in DAW.

so take that!
