I just bought a yamaha dp series set and all new heads. Since I haven't had good luck so far with tuning I thought I would ask for help. I have all the heads on, finger on the lugs. where do I go from hear. I will be looking to get different drum sounds for different songs, but first things first. The sizes are 10'', 14'', and 20'' bass.
The heads are pinstripes-top,ambassador-bottom on the toms. Aquarian super-kick-batter and regulator on front. It has a 4.25'' offset hole. Both have dampening on the head.

Thanks for any help.

take the following link to Professor Sound's Drum Tuning Bible:

this comprehensive 'tuning method' kicks butt - I've been using it with my Yamaha Beech Customs and have gotten amazing results

Good Luck

I've had really good results using a tuner with a mic. I can accurately tune to the fundimental note I want. Some tuners don't have the range but a good one will. Also, you can try feeding the signal from the mic into a pitch shifter effect and set it one octave higher. I read that drum bible a bunch of times and it can get confusing. I've tried tuning in 3rds, 4ths and 5ths. Without the tuner I could never have done it that accurately. Tip: don't hit the drum hard when tuning with a mic and tuner. I am using the exact same heads you are and they work well for me.
