Soooo...

Kind of an odd one here. I bought 2 mice a while back that are 3-pin Tuchel connectors, not XLR. I was going to take the easy way out and just buy a Tuchel to XLR mic cable or a couple of adapters but they cost too much for me to justify, so I built one. I bought 2 Tuchel connectors that were compatible with my mics, and I have a bunch of Switchcraft male XLR twist lock assemblies. The first cable I made I just hacked a known-good mic cable end and tied it onto the Tuchel adapter, pretty much wiring it like-for-like (matching at both ends, basically). No problem there, seems to work fine, no hum or buzz.

The other day I wanted to build an adapter cable instead so I don't waste another good mic cable, so I have all this scrap Belden cable I pulled from a console a couple years ago (good stuff, wired my XLR panel in my studio with it and it's quiet). I built myself a very short, Tuchel to XLR adapter cable using the Tuchel connector and the twist lock XLR male end, basically the same as the last cable, except I wired this one up completely from scratch using a piece of the Belden cable. Buzzes like a muttha. It doesn't matter which ways I wire it either, I've gone back and tried different configurations... just buzzes. This is also different in that it's an extension cable so I'm just using it to extend an existing XLR cable. The Belden cable itself is shielded, and I know it's good stuff but not thick and not very flexible. Is there anything I could be doing wrong right off the bat by using this? I could just tear up another good mic cable but I don't want to; I'd rather figure out what i'm doing wrong here. I know it's not the cable differences (like standard mic cable plugging into this very thin cable adapter) because my patch panel is wired up with the same stuff and the same twist lock ends to my console and I plug stuff into it all the time with no issue. I'm just baffled at what I could be doing wrong.

Anyone here ever wire these things up?

Is it wired correctly?

Tuchel pin 1 goes to XLR pin 2 (+ve)
Tuchel pin 2 goes to XLR pin 1 (screen)
Tuchel pin 3 goes to XLR pin 3 (-ve)

Any chance your pinout is correct but the conductors are mixed up?
Ie, your adapter uses screen for pin 2 or 3 by mistake?

I'll check everything again, and take a good look at how my functional cable is wired up one more time. I did follow tuchel to xlr pinout instructions also, Got the same result.

Yup, took a better look and nailed it this time. I tied the shield to the ground but bridged it to the wrong pin. Plus my pinout was completely wrong this time around so I just rebuilt it. Thanks again guys!

Great news I love it when a plan comes together.
Smoke me a kipper!!!!!!!!!
