New to the forum and starting to learn some home recording. I'm a sax/guitar player, but I am also doing some vocals and miscellaneous instruments.
I'm thinking about getting an SM57, multipurpose, affordable and reliable. Don't exactly have much money to spend on a better preamp, so I'm currently deciding between the Tube MP and the Blue Icicle XLR to USB.
Which one provides higher quality recordings?

This is kind of a weird question because the SM57 is a great mic and can be used for just about anything. The Icicle on the other hand allows you to use your choice of condenser mic as a usb condense. Meaning you wouldn't need to use a interface of any kind. The SM57 with an interface would be your best bet for long term results and it could be used on either instrument you mentioned.

But I would have to connect the Tube MP (interface?) via line in, which would mean a converter, so would that generate some noise? And also wouldn't USB be better than line in?
