Hi guys, great forum I just regisitered today. I hope this is the right place to post this thread. I am looking for a tube mixer (stereo) ether powered or unpowered. Our band has a pair of Klipsch LaScala speakers and they sound the best with tubes as to Solid State. I know fender use to make one and so did Bogen but they are hard to find. Again this would be a mixer for a band 4 or 5 mic in puts and one stereo imput with stereo outputs is all we need. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. All the best, Guy

getting an unpowered mixer lends itself to greater upgradability since the mixer and the power amp are seperate, so whatever you get, i would recommend getting an unpowered mixer as opposed to a powered mixer.

Those Fender/Bogen things are relics. Not really quality pieces, sound-wise. The pres are basically crap. Low power as well, 50W is about the max. And will most certainly be mono, and probably need work just to be functional.

New or decent sounding vintage tube gear will be very expensive. Plan on laying out around $6,000 for an 8 channel stereo tube mixer and 200W stereo tube guitar amp (both used- new will be more, and vintage perhaps more than new), plus a few hundred or so for cases for your nice new gear.

Personally, I'd spend the 6 Gs on a modern PA if I were you. Less weight (those La Scalas are like 200 lbs. apiece, right?) less hassle, more durability and reliability. The setup you want would probably sound great, but I would not want to move it, maintain it, or worry about it.

Welcome aboard.

Tube mixer? Hmmm...

If you can't find one of the rare ones, I'd go for an unpowered mixer and grab a tube amp of for the power.

Take care,
Chris
