I started experimenting w/ multitrack computer recording recently, and my setup is kinda primitive: guitar>cable>distortion pedal>cable>computer line in. I dont record w/ a guitar amp. I like the sound I am getting, but it is kind of risky. Would a tube mic/line preamp be safe to add to this signal chain, running direct into the computer line in??? I thought I might be able to warm up the signal while simultaneously protecting my computer w/ the tube mic/line preamp's volume control and built in limiter. It would be really appreciated if someone could answer this question. -M.L.
