i'd like to get a quote for 50 - minimum order and see if it's a good deal, maybe get some advanced orders here...

1, tub microphone itself
2, power supply with multi-pattern knob
3, aluminum carrying case
4, elastic suspension
5, wind screen
6, link cables xlr 7 pins 10m

Sweet, I'll be the first on my block to own a genuine "tub" mic!!!

Hmm...intersting.

I could swear those Samson condensers and those Kel mics have the *exact* same look/shape/design as some of the mics by this company:

(click on microphones on the left side, then click broadcast/recording mics)

Coinicidence?

all this stuff is crazy. There's a lot more $$ to be made in gear than I previously thought, especially importing fm China.

I was about to delete this thread b/c I think that mic is the Apex 460 / Telefunken m12 thing, but now that there's responses I won't.

Been reading online for hours and my head is spinning from mic tech stuff....gotta record now b4 it's too late.

I think I'd be more interested in this one: http://takstar.en.alibaba.com/product/0/50031416/Vacuum_Tube_Condenser_Microphone.html

1. The company seems more reputable (they have "trustpass" and "gold supplier" memberships)
2. They show a picture of the electronics (not a great one, but better than nothing)
3. The mic looks a whole lot cooler
4. They have a cooler sounding name

That's my two cents anyways...

Wonder how easy it would be for someone (myself) to purchase the minimum of 50 mics and sell them. think folks around the board would buy them?

good question, but you'd probly have to get a sample, then allow for duds, setup an account with them, since you are new, you'd have to pay up front. You would have to have them shipped to you. You would need pre payment from buyers, and you would have to ship to them. You might want to test each one before it goes out and that takes time, and you need boxes for shipping, and packing, and labeling and a way to keep track of it all. Make sure all of your income has cleared for checks, or paypal or setup credit card account. You would have to have a tax id number and charge tax to those in your state. You might want to not co-mingle your biz accounts with your personal accounts, and if you have a biz account at a bank, there is a monthy fee and you might want to keep a biz box to not expose your home address and you would need to have a local biz license or dba to start your biz account at the bank. You would need to ship w/ a nearby shipper and have an account with them or have them show up at your house to recieve the stuff you're shipping. Need some space to receive and ship and pack. You would need time to ship out 50 items, it can't be done in a day. People would want to know when you were shipping them. Returns are a problem, you need to be able to recieve returns and process them and eat the bad ones b/c you probly can't get another order from them since the minimum is 50, so you'd also want to order more for duds, like 60, that's a 20 percent dud rate and pray that you don't get more than 10 duds. there's some more things that come to mind, but it's late....

you are making it more complicated than what I was thinking....Say they were $100 each...50 mics would cost me $5000. I could inturn pack them and ship them for probably $10 to 15? then mark them up what ever % i thought fair and sell them on ebay or in the forum here. I could handle paying the $5000 up front if i thought they would sell. Im just pulling the $100 each, $5000 for 50 out of my ass..I dont know what they really cost...but you get the picture...

Yeah I don't think it would be all that complicated either, but the "dud rate" is something you would have to consider. People would get pretty mad if they bought one from you and it didn't work. All you'd have to do is test them out though, and I doubt they'd have anything as high as a 10% dud rate (they'd be out of business). As far as prices go, I'd be willing to guess you could get them for a lot less than $100 each.

The only problem I see with this plan is that when it comes down to it, they're just Chinese mics...there are tons of those out there already. Unless you could sell them for stupid-cheap, I think it might be hard to unload 50 of them.

if you go to NAMM there are dozens of these Chinese companies giving away these mics for almost nothing to get people to try/buy.

I've got the price lists and the shipping cost is almost as much as the mics. To sell them for profit you pretty much need to have your biz setup near a major shipping port so you can deal with the inventory by the truck load.

Don't forget the 4.9% Duty you have to pay, plus all the Bond fees, the insurance, and delivery to you. There is more, but I don't want to bust your bubble. If this is something you don't do full time, you might want to reconsider your thought.....

I have just been entertaining thoughts of ways to stop working my current job and do something that im happy with...even if it pays less...I was just wondering if recording gear could be something i could invest $6000 to $8000 into that might make me a little money. I dont mean anything major...not for that small amount of cash anyway...just something fairly inexpensive that I might be able to move fast...

Its not that simple. If it was, everyone would do it...

Here's the guy who would know the answer to the question.

Yea, lots of business ideas seem simple from the first stage, but this is the USA and there's a ton of biz laws that apply to every situation. There are no easy, no-money-down, turnkey things, that's all buzz words for selling seminar and books on get-rich-quick, quit-yer-job hype.

There are many very hard working, even scheming (sp?) and very hungry people searching every minute of every day for deals to add to their survival, not even get rich.

I'm not saying don't bother, I'm just saying that it's always at least a little more complex than it might seem at first glance. I know it's hard even to sell a jamfest cd to people who attended the jamfest and break even on it, and there's still HR compilation cd's for sale at cdbaby, i think.

I'd love to learn how any biz works, it's always very interesting to get into new concepts and learn new stuff, even if I'm never going to use it. Maybe I'll ask Alan a few hundred questions someday when I have the time.

It took me a loong time to figure out the Music biz, many books, seminars, reading, college, library hours, etc.

Anyway, I have quite a few cheap mics now and I think I have enough. I figure if I added all the costs all together I could probably have afforded an expensive one or 2. But I'm done for a while. It will take me a lot more time to really learn how they all sound beyond my first few tests. And I do have a cheap tube mic too, have yet to really use it much, only a test so far. So I'm done for a while until I catch up on the cheap mic locker back log. :)

I am amazed by how many people/companies are doing it. Everyday it seems there is a "new and improved" Chinese import with a different name.

IIRC, the TapeOp community or some other one did this with the t.bone/nady ribbon mic....all went well

I wonder why Alan might want to discourage people from importing large numbers of Chinese microphones? :D
