For all those out there wondering If its worth swappin out those stock tubes that come in your preamps, the MPA Gold in particular here something that may help your decision making process.
Mic-GT 67
Tubes (In order of Appearance)
-Stock, GE Long Plates, RCA Short Plates
As Promised The GE has deeper mids a bigger low end, and a softer top end
The RCA has a tight open sound with less of a low end but more aggression.
The stocks tubes....well they're stock tubes. Which can Suffice don't get me wrong, but for 35 bucks its worth the swap.
