Tubby Dub

Cool - I know zip about dub but I enjoyed this one. I thought it had kind of a western feel to it in spots - does that make sense?

Hey kip, there's some good stuff in this. I felt that the low end was a little light throughout though - the bass line itself is clear enough, but the kick doesn't feel like it has enough body and everything else in the mix sounded like there was a lot of high pass filtering on. I think the low end has to drive dub/reggae etc and ground the tune - for my ears addressing this would make a big difference to the mix. Good performance throughout :)

Fair enough thanks for that
Probably something to do with everything is my mu90r synth except the guitars and vox bits.
I'll have alookie see if i cant change the drum map on the kick drum and maybe change the bass line a bit too.
The high pass thing maybe has to do with conversion to mp3 and soundclouds own compression, not making excuses it sounded fine in my monitors.
I do value your opinions thanks

I just listened back on soundcloud and you have a good point it sounds thin and the guitars sound washed out and peircing grrr

Soundcloud is 128 MP3 - so the quality will be reduced and I find it affects the sonics on lots of stuff. Oh well, it's easier than mailing cassettes to you overseas ...lol...

128 i wouldnt even dignify my ipod (cant remember where i put it right now) with that kind of qaulity lol.
Its convenient and stops folks just downloading your stuff too.

This sounds good kip. I like the arrangement and you certainly have great clarity.

I like the bass part in particular.

I'm actually not used to hearing dub so clear and modern sounding. I'm terrible with genres, but I think of dub as being more lo-fi like lee perry, big youth, maybe bunny wailer? I bet it's come a long way since then though.

I too think the low end in general on this mix could come up to give the whole thing a meatier sound, but I do like it as is too.
