I've been looking at these mid priced ($1000 or so) ADK multi-pattern tube mics. I can't quite spring for the Lawson right now, but I'm thinking either of these mics could augment my NTK, which is my lone tube mic. Does anybody have real world experience with these mics, and if possible, compare them? Dot, lay it on me-Richie

Nathan Eldred and I did a head-to-head with those 2 mics a while back, and the results were...um...less than conclusive. While we thought both were excellent mics, and excellent value - he preferred the TT, while I leaned toward the A48 (& in fact bought one). I think we both agreed that the TT was a more 'modern' sound, while the A48 had a more 'vintage' vibe. You can't go too wrong with either one. FWIW, and throw in the proverbial grain of salt, but of the other mics I own, I'd say the A48 is closest to the Soundelux E49.

I've got an A48, and I tried a TT (and TL) for about two weeks. For my uses as a third (center) channel mic for solo acoustic and classical guitar, the A-48 is bright and tight. It certainly has a vintage vibe to it. It is tempermental with placement, which might just be another way of saying it may excel in certain applications. Dunno, as I haven't tried it on anything other than 6 different guitars. The TT is smoother, more neutral and I would suspect more versitile. The proximity effect of the A48 is less pronounced. The mic has a tight bass and a tight midrange. The highs are a bit smoother in the TT, and I could see where the A48 highs might be a little much at times (although off axis sourcing mitigates this). The TL is a very nice mic, basically the FET version of the TT. Very similar, more neutral. Certainly not boring.

Hope that helps.
