Some guy in my work is selling a Marshall 60watt TSL 601 for €550 or nearest offer....it has Groove Tubes EL34s and is a year old according to the blurb. I came across the post today, it's a few weeks old but he might still have it.

So say I offer €500, or $680, do you think it's a good buy?

Also, jonnyC is exempt from posting.

seems pretty good

obviously they go for alot more new, but even on eBay, 680 american is a good deal. i say go for it, try the amp out first if you can though.

Adam

Well if you can deal with it's fizztasticness then go for it. While it isn't impossible to record it is a bit tricky. To me there's just something missing tone wise from the TSL's but at the very least if you can get it cheap then do it and sell it for what you paid if you don't like it. Just go buy it damnit, you Marshall lover you.

Okay I'll try cut a deal with this guy tomorrow but I've a feeling the amp will be long gone.

Adam I would try it if I can, but if I do go ahead with it, I'll know the guys name, number and place of work (because it's MY place of work!) but he seems to know his stuff....upgraded the tubes and possibly the transistor.

Did the deal, picking it up tomorrow. Cost a little more, he wouldn't move on the price. But it is 6 months old and has new Electro Harmonix EL 34 output valves. He also upgraded to a Mercury Magnetics output transformer.

nice one, hope it works out for ya

take the 500 and wave it in his face, if he refuses walk away, he will call you back as you said the post is a few weeks old, dont rush to his price he will come down...

Yeah I was wodnering about it, he said 'or nearest offer' in the ad and then was reluctant on the phone. He's a ncie guy though and I can see where he's coming from having upgraded the transformer.

bla bla bla... man thats just to make you hand over the dosh, were all nice guys when we want to be

your probably going to get a great deal if all goes well so you might as well stick him for a few more quid

hope it all goes ok and it is what was listed

The other guitar player in my old band had a tsl and the only time it got fizzy was when you tried to do the typical mids all the way down and gain all the way up thing that metal guys like to do. the fact is, you need at least some mids and to back off the gain more than you really want to.

the TSL is a nice amp in my opinion.

Yeah it has this optional tone scoop. I'll be avoiding like the plague! I mostly play standrad bluesy rock stuff.

Got the amp, played it in his place, sounded fine, get it home, cranked it up....annoying resonating sound. Much like the tone coming from my AVT. Think it could be the back grill, so i'll tighten that up or take it off and test it.

Anybody know a neutral soudning environment to test this?

Outside. If your neighbors won't kill you. ;)
