Hello there,

I am new here and I hope to enjoy my stay here :)

Well, I am into home recording and I am into the process of buying a Recording USB interface. I am thinking of Line 6 POD Farm UX1.

Here is its I/O Ports:

# 1-1/4" guitar input
# 1 balanced XLR input with high-quality mic preamp and trim knob
# 2-1/4" line inputs
# 1-1/4" stereo monitor input
# 2-1/4" analog outs
# 1-1/4" headphone out

As far as I know that the 2 1/4" analog outs are balanced TRS jacks. What I want will be like the following:

Guitar > Line6 UX1 > PC > Line6 UX1 > Converter > Guitar cable > Amplifier Mic Trim

1/4" TS Male > 1/4" TS Female - USB 2.0 > Processing > USB 2.0 - 1-4" TRS Female > 1/4" TRS Male - 1/4" TS Female > 1/4" TS Male - 1/4" TS Male > 1/4" TS Female

The problem in here that the Line6 UX1 output is TRS while the Mic Trim in the Amplifier is TS. I have 1/4" TS Female to 1/4" TRS Male converter from RadioShack. So will this do the trick without losing signal or tone? Connecting the 1/4" TRS to the Line6 UX1 and connecting the 1/4" TS guitar cable on the other side.

Thanks in advance

The biggest advantage of TRS over TS is that it eliminates unwanted noise/hum over long runs. For short runs there is no difference unless you have a very bad noise problem.

No long runs. That is for home recording in my room.

So this TS to TRS conversion will cause no problems ?

Something else, what are the sources that can cause noise problems on TS cables ?
and if it is the case, how can I overcome on it ?

Also what will happen if I inserted TRS plug into TS jack ? Will this cause the tone to get muddier or brighter ?

Thanks :)

Other electrical devices, particular running power wires over or near signal wires is not a good idea...

I wouldn't be too concerned about noisy cables at this point, you'll have bigger fish to fry I suspect.

Nice use of colour!

Balanced connections reduce noise but the signal level WILL be less if the recording interface is balanced and you use an unbalanced signal. Check out the specs

Thanks guys for your replies.

@Beemer

Well, if you checked the diagram above, you will find the jack that receives the signal from the guitar is unbalanced but the output jack is balanced while the amp jack is unbalanced and here is the problem that I was asking for.

How to solve the problem that the output from the interface is balanced while the input to the amplifier should be unbalanced. I really want to solve this problem without any signal/tone loss..

I don't know either if the output of the interface accept unbalanced as well.

If you check the manual you will see that on this unit the two outputs are unbalanced.

Only the Line UX8 unit has balanced outputs.

Thanks Beemer for this. I don't have the manual. I would like to know where you have got it ?
So I can check for another features for the product as well

Thanks again :)
