This has been discussed numerous times I'm sure but I couldn't find the answer to exactly what I"m looking for. I understand the difference between the two but here's my confusion point, according to the BR1180 Quick Guide book it says that from the guitar to the pedal to use a TS cable, from the pedal to the studio board a TRS cable also, and for synths also to use the TRS type? Is that correct or what? Also would there be a benefit or a problem using a TRS cable out of the mono output from a TD3 brain straight into the studioboard. My objective is just to get the cleanest sound of course using the right equipment before I go out and buy more cables. Any help and comments are appreciated...thank you!
Black and white instuctions of which ones to use where would be appreciated also.

You can use a TRS cable just about anywhere. But the cable doesn't make the signal balanced.

Unless both the pieces of equipment that you are plugging into are balanced, you won't have a balanced signal and you won't get the benefits of a balanced signal.

Thanks!

They couldn't explain it as simple as you did and pointing out the obvious...Thanks!
