Ok, I re-did this song and really tried to work on pitch. I know there are still rough edges and I don't think I have all the midrange I'd like in my voice-if that makes sense. Any feedback on things I should be doing would be appreciated :guitar:

Practice singing scales, intervals, and learn to listen to yourself. Pay attention. Keep it simple.

What Alton says. It is still pitchy and vocally out of control.

Your voice is fine, but it needs training. Get yourself a vocal coach.

Wow. Man, honestly, you need to walk before you can run. Don't worry about "style" or "mid-range", or any other such non-sense at this point. You need to worry about the most basic thing, which is singing on key. That's some really pitchy singing. Not trying to be harsh, but I know for a fact that if you listen to this in a few years, you'll say the same thing. Take the advice above, work on scales, pitch and singing in tune. Then you can worry about things like singing like a folk singer or worrying about the EQ of your voice.

I like the voice, but the others are correct. You're going to have to get your voice under control. If you can't afford a coach, or don't want one, take a song you like, and think you can sing, bring it in to your DAW, lay down your vocal track in a new track. Listen to your voice against the other, even mute the original recording track to just your vocals. Listen from there and then the areas where they are not in, practice those until the sound better, keep doing that until you get your vocals tuned up. Soon it will be second nature.

Just a thought, but don't give up.

Hi,
I do a little folk singing from time to time, and I think its essential to understand the genre, as the singing itself is not technically demanding (bare in mind this is coming form a classical soprano!!). I think it might be helpful for you to research the traditions and to actively listen to some of the best....eg Joan Baez, Arlo Guthrie, Judy Collins, Richie Havens etc
