Been running 2 condensers and 1 dynamic mic into the back of the Scarlett. inputs 3,4, and 5 respectively. I just want each channel to record nicely, so i have options to pan etc. The default settings had the condensers not seeming to record anything (phantom switched on) and the dynamic coming out sounding like it was recorded through a cheap old fasioned tape recorder, all warbly and strange sounding. Since then, in the absence of any clear instructions, I've tried selecting various settings and through trial and error, mostly error really, come up with different combinations of some tracks not working at all or being panned L or R only, or only working if one of the others is switched off, or playing back at 1/4 speed. The sound quality is always unpleasing though.

I'll keep messing about with it but was hoping someone might have a few hints to get me there quicker.

Thanks!

I've narrowed it down a bit by using just one small diaphram condensor mic through input 1. When selecting ASIO as the "driver system" and the Focusrite as the input and output I can record in Samplitude, the bar moves up and down, and moves up and down on playback but nothing comes through the Focusrite headphone output. If I select WDM as th "driver system", I can record and listen back through my computer's headphone output. I've tried just about everything I can think of to get playback though the Focusrite and nothing's worked, so I'm starting to think there's a problem with the Focusrite unit itself.

Okay well....made some progress after 2 and half hours, lol of F'ing around, in the Scarlett Mix Control you have to have "Routing Preset" set to "DAW tracking" and you also have to have "monitor preset" set to "mid (whatever that means) + Phones 1"

Hopefully this thread saves somebody somewhere some time!

Most interested "Mr Doodle" to read of a user of Samplitude Silver. I have been mentioning this DAW quite often on HR as a completely free alternative to the excellent but All Conquering Reaper.

I have to wonder how you came to it? Well over 12 years ago my son and I struggled with recording software (we knew nowt and I was broke) and yes, to my shame, we did dabble with a crack of Cubase but was severely punished since it borked my only computer and it took over a week for a (sadly no longer with us) PC gifted pal to sort it.

Then I spotted "MAGIX Audio Studio Generation 6" in of all places, WH Smiths £9.99 and after a LOT of faffing got the audio side working a treat. Never had any luck with MIDI but later found that was made for SE9 and would not play at all well on XP.

The next breakthrough was Computer Music magazine who gave away Sam SE8 (then 9, 10 and 11 but never liked those) Brilliant! The 16 bit experience with M A S G 6 translated very well to SE8 and it has served us well for years. SE8 is not ENTIRELY happy on W7/64 but does work. Pro x Silver is the bizz. Have you tried the excellent MP3 etc converter?

I have an 8i6 but I don't think I have tried it with Silver. I do know I looked at the Mix software, screamed and shut it off! I shall try to be braver one day.

I like Samplitudes so much that if Son decide to come back from France and take up his music here again seriously I would severly dent the Plastic and buy Pro X ll !

Dave.

Hey Dave.

Hey that's Mr Doodie by the way, lol- why did I choose that name? :(
I'm starting to figure Samplitude out and I'm enjoying it over the BR-1600.
It's very similiar to Logic, or Protools from what I can see. The biggest obstacle so far was figuring out sending each track from the Scarlett to correspond with Samplitude and the Scarlett mixer. If there's a way to get rid of the mixer I might take it, but so far I'm having luck with sending everything in Samplitude to channels 1+2 "out" which lets me monitor through "the cans" (do they still use that term? hehe) from the Scarlett output 1.
What I'm liking most about it so far is the click, to practise with (but I still love my Dr.Beat66) and the other thing of course is, stuff is instantly on my computer, no endless up and downloading, burning CD's etc. Just makes life so much easier. Saved heaps of time already.
I even adapted my shelf to take the Scareltt; nice compact unit. I might even hook some speaker monitors up to it soon.

The Focusrite's a little tough to get your head around at first insofar as the routing goes, but I finally got it after reading through the instructions a few times about the monitoring section. Stick with Samplitude, and when you get the dough, upgrade. I started out on Sam Music Studio, and went up from there. They've actually lowered their prices on Pro X2. That's where you want to end up, though I still use 11 Pro on a lot of older projects.
