I figured i would break this plea for help into parts in hopes someone could advise on the best way to put what I'm limited to at the moment to best use (we are trying to make the most of our time/space/resoruces to accomplish a few good-quality demos of the highest quality without any overdubs whatsoever):
I. The Music - A 'loud' 4-piece rock band, ala raunchy stones/who meets psychedelic guitar riffs with occassional country-like 'lo-fi' ballads. new york city based. consisting of lead (1) lead vocal/(1) backing, (lead guitar), (ryth guitar) (heavy-picked gibson bass, think allen woody) (ian paice style drumming, lots of fusion rythyms on med to heavy cymbals).
II. The Room - An actual floating very well sound-proofed basement former studio, about 14'x22' with pro-sound carpet, drum riser, egg-carton/bass-traps appropriately placed, house mackie 400watt 808M mixer + pair of 1000watt crest audio pa speakers (very crispy).
III. The Gear - (lead gtr) telecaster/blues-driver/tremolo/mutron-phasor thru 68'40W Fender Vibrolux Tube Amp. (rythym) 70's epiphone/lespaul thru fender 25W BluesJr Tube Amp. (bass) 68'GibsonEb-3/picked(hard, lots of chords..snarls)/'modified'-shoegazerBoss-heavymetal/BigMuff-Pi/Vintage A/AD phaser/SansAmp-DI/Aguilar-PreAmp thru DavidEden Traveller 400 Amp and David Eden 2x10XLT Cab. (drums) vintage/"boomy" ludwig 4-piece and lots of medium/heavy rides and med-crash and med-hihat.
IV. The Available Rec-Gear - Behringer UB2442FX Pro Mixer - M-Audio DMP3 2-channel Preamp - Alesis 3630 2-channel Compressor - Alesis Microverb IV - BBE 482i Sonic Maximizer - AKG D112 + drum clips/with stands (enough to go around) - AKG D880M - (3) Shure 57 - Apex E49 Condeser - Audio Technica 4050
V. DAW - Tascam Mr-8 (left/rigth tracks for 'one-take' live demo onto flashcard) *This is temporary and i've used it before for recording rehearsals with one-mic, and it also allows me to fire-wire the wav files to my laptop and remix (slightly) using my mp3-maker program, or my sound-forge. **I guess, this in itslef is the challenge I present to you all today.. how can i maximize the sound.. level-wise while recording 'one-take' 3 to 6 minute 'loud' rock songs to emmulate a sound-stage/live feel..???
All insight is greatly appreciated... ie: where to/not to use compressors, pre's, built-in effects on the behringer, etc...
thanks...
