That's right, you heard right. Pretty self-explanitory, I am trying out a mic  It's flat and live except for a lil reverb added, I didnt try mic placements yet or anything, I just hit record. Comments?

It very bright David. I know it's an mP3 but there's not much in the way of timbre coming through & as I said tonality is on the bright side.
What were your thoughts?

Its definitely bright. The room itself is really bright and crowded, it has no natural reverberation at all.

Most of the stuff I have posted here has some sort of high cut, I didnt do it for this. If I used it for a serious recording I would definietely use a high cut. I would also place the mic further away, I had it about 2 feet away tops. Violins are incredibly noisy up close, there is a lot of surface noise and you can hear it on this recording.

I will play around with it and do some more takes, its too early for me to judge it based on this. BTW, it's not a "name" mic, at least not yet. Somebody in this forum made the mic.

I thought it sounded fine...nothing ear piercing or anything.
just a consumers input, damn nice playing!

Superb playing skill. Sounds like a great sounding instrument in a very reflective room.

Here's what I'd do (this is a messy solution though)... take everything out of your bedroom closet and hang it up against the walls of your recording space with picture hangers, ceiling hooks, mic stands w/booms, etc. Then move the mic just a little further away and see how the room sounds. It'll cut that HF sizzle down. I think I heard a couple lower midrange woofs in the room too, so if you can pile stuff up high in the corners it'll reduce that. Also, if you get the room to be not so reflective you can point the mic so that it's not aimed right at the instrument and it'll reduce the highs a bit, even with an omni. Not all mic's sound good that way though - some get phasey.

Is the mic an MSH-2?

Fuck You David!!!!!! :p

Nice playing man...that was sweet. Sounds good to me...just dry. (I assume it shold though...). I think it picked up what I believe is a very natural sound.

Fuck You!!!! :p
