Hi i'm looking for a set of monitors for my homestudio, i was about to go out and get a pair of either Near05 or Behringer Truths.. I've been out listening, and i think i favored the Truths a bit.. But now i have got a good deal on a pair of second hand Genelec 1029A's on my hand for a bit more than the price of Truths.. what to do..? Is the Genelecs, better than the truths do you think, as it is probably genelcs cheapest model..? I don't have the opportunity to compare the genelecs to the Truths as the guy that are selling only have the 1029s..

Any advice guys..?

monitors sound different to everyones ears. I'd never buy a pair of monitors without listening to them

The Genelecs should be better. But you really really have to listen.

i know that i have to listen, but my problem is that i cannot hear the genelecs and compare to the truths, as the gens are used, and thats the only monitors that the guy have.. but they should be better or..?! what to do.. i've been looking for a shop that has the 1029s but can't seem to find any, it's an older model right..?

On the overall, Genelec is a higher quality brand than Behringer (dare I saw, alot higher quality).

The gens are differently more quality in construction and reliability. I have a pair of truth 2031A and they are a matched pair which is always a good thing. They're my second set because the first pair had a buzz in one of the speakers at high volume. This second pair has been working like a champ though.

The GENS are tried and true thats a good thing. The behringers are great bang for the buck but you're running into a crap shoot on the reliability.

It's always good advice to go listen. But then I live in a state with 2 million people and there is virtually no selection anywhere. I have to drive to Vegas or So Cal because Guitar Center in Salt Lake can't/won't carry shit.

Well, they do carry Mackie's and the employee's there think they are top notch.

I own a pair of truth 2031b and the tweeters are crackling. Iv'e had them for about 4 months now.

From one Utard to another: GC isnt the only place in town.

Performance Audio
2456 S. West Temple

They've been there forever; longer than GC's been in the Family Center.

Technically GC has been there longer. Performance moved to their new location a few years ago. At Performance though you will get a much more informed opinion than you will at GC.

If you want to take a listen to my Dynaudios, I am just north of Logan in Utah. I think that once you do, you won't be looking at either Genelec or Behringer;)

Plus you can come take a look at my new console:D

Yeah.. technically you're right xstatic... they moved but IIRC, they have always been in that general vacinity.

i'd stab a kitten for a good deal on a pair of genelecs.

the berringers are probably not going to be able to match them.
beware a referance speaker with a built in eq.

haveing said that, yes it really helps to hear them.

but the companys don't even cater to the same people, let alone usually compete.

good luck ;)

Good excuse for a little road trip!

I've got to finish off my basement studio room then I'll upgrade my monitors.

I'll for sure keep this in mind.
