I hear ya, Dave. I don't look for stuff anymore except to occasionally troll for spares for my MM-1000 or bits for my MCI JH-416 desk project. Haven't purchased anything in a long time, but I have to realize that my 1981 Honda CX500C motorcycle project has been somewhat a replacement for that. In usual form (for me) it was free, and in bad shape...not running and left for dead in a barn for the last 15 years. At least there's practical application at 50mpg and a 30 mile commute every day. And equestrian activity has been a diversion as well, but at least that is activity which is embedded in time spent with the girls.
That Model 10 mixer with the 70 series tape machines has been bumping around for quite some time...just keeps getting cheaper.

I've sold a fair amount of stuff. There have been several instances of finding problems that need repair when proofing and prepping this equipment for sale. That's a huge buzzkill, as it says to me the previous sellers passed along problems that I didn't catch at the time. However, I'll not pass on defective gear by failing to mention known problems. In the turnaround, my list of fixit gear keeps getting longer, and my ability to fix it remains the same. It's almost bounced back to the idea I had many years ago about buying fixit gear on the cheap, refurbishing and selling at a profit. Is easier said than done! All that, and the sad and ironic fact that although I'm overpacked with gear, I've not recording a single lick in over 3 years! Not to mention the insult to my senses that I bought tons of gear that I've never used, and now it's on the for sale list. But,... that's life!

Is the Series 70 at all worth getting?
I mean, I suppose anything is worth getting if the price is right, but still, I wouldn't think of this as something people drool over. Unless there's something I don't know?

That looks like it would be nice from a collector point of view, but from an actual usability angle? I think it's basically an 80-8 without the bugfixes...

It would just be for the collector IMO. And the 80-8 is much more than a 70 with bug fixes.

I've sold most of my analog stuff, except for a couple of 424mkII and a SoundMaster board. I used the money to get back into photography, but damn it, I miss piddling around with the TSR-8 and 38. I've still got my 909s and 4300 for playing two track stuff. I think within a year or two (once my son gets a little older) I'll have the time and inclination to pick up and actually use the recorders.

I know how my opening post reads, but...
I'm really not inclined to buy an entire Series 70 setup. I generally like more modern vintage equipment. My vintage baseline is the 30 Series. I just thought it looked really cool as a tight, vintage setup. I don't think too many of those are around like that, intact as a set. I don't really have too many moments of buyer's envy when I cruise eBay / Tascam, but I have more than a passing interest in it. Most often I'm looking at comps of the type of equipment I'm trying to sell. I want my gear pricing to be a realistic and fair value. Craigslist buyers generally try to ruthlessly lowball you, and I've sent many of them away. My buying days are behind me, for the forseeable future. I'm still in a languishing phase and trying to respark my recording itself, in it's most basic form, regardless of format. I know when I do start recording again, it will be upon one of the recorder/mixer combinations I've already hoarded into the house, garage or closet. However, the very occasional ATR-80/24 that comes up does press those old buttons, but it reminded me of so many years ago when I almost bought the Studer A800mkIII (I'm pretty sure was the model),.... It was a transport the size of a small desk, and the amp modules were in a BIG tower type setup, lofted above the transport. Ah, those were the days,.... the studio owner wanted $8K, delivered, and as crazy as it sounds, I almost popped for it on the spot!

haha. Isnt that the truth! Fortunately the exterior doors in my house are all french doors, and all the rooms have them, so can get some pretty unwieldy equipment in.
