Trouble with soundcard setup? E-MU 0404

I recently installled an E-MU 0404 card, designed specifically for musicians. After installing it, I connected my old pc speakers to it using a "Y" adaptor as the card had an output interface consisting of a left and right channel 1/4" jack, and my speakers are run off of a single 1/8" plug. I noticed right away that I was only getting part of the signal that way, but checking the card's hookups using headphones, I found that only the left signal was leaving the computer. After going to "sound" in My Computer, I found that in the section where you make adjustments to volume, it only listed a left side. I'm kind of lost as to what should be my next step.
