Ok, say i wanted to trigger a kick drum, can someone walk me through this??

Depends what you mean, and what you've got.

A really easy way to do it is to get your kick drum into a soft synth, and draw in the hits in your midi editor. It triggers and plays back for you. A high end example would be something like Kontakt or Halion into Cubase ... but Tracktion has a sampler in it and enough midi functionality for you to do this.

If you want to do it in real time, hook your midi keyboard up and hit the note you've mapped your kick sample to.

Does that help at all?

Budget? What do you have now? Acoustic drum set? Nothing? Do you know midi? Do you have a computer/midi software? Want to go hardware or software?

Take a look at this for starters

Then you could run that into a akai sampler so something like that then you could use it live or run midi into your computer.

Hmm no i wasn't specific enough sorry. I record metalcore/metal music, am talking about recording acoustic drums but triggering at least the kick, like bands such as as i lay dying, and it dies today, etc...

You can either build or buy a trigger to attach to the drum ... or you can do it by hand. Might be easier to do by hand!! :)

Surely a shitty mic or something would suffice? Its what comes after that that i need explaining lol
