Triggering .wav samples with a midi track?

I figured out how to use the "extract timing" function in Sonar to make a Midi track that follows the peaks on a kick track. With this I'm able to trigger kick sounds from my keyboard to replace the original kick sound, but I want to be able to use my own samples. For example, I want to be able to record my drums without worrying about the kick sound, then sample a few perfect kick sounds from the same drum, and replace the original kick track with the samples I made. Are there any programs that can take a midi track and replace the midi notes with a wav sample that I made? Prefferably inexpensive programs?

Does Sonar support VSTi instruments? There are several VSTi samplers out there that will trigger any wave file via MIDI commands.

I'm not sure. I know it supports DXi instruments. I'm not sure if one of those vst plugin adapter programs would work with vsti instruments like they work with direct x plugins or not. But then I still havent rounded up the money for one of those adapter things yet anyway.

There are pleanty of DXi samplers to use with Sonar. You don't need to use VST.

You already have a sample player if you have the LiveSynth DXi soft synth. Sound Fonts are pretty much the same thing as Wav files.

Go to the Sound Blaster website and download Vienna Studio - it lets you create your own Sound Fonts.
