Can the D4 be triggered by a regular microphone like the sm57 or 58? Instead of purchasing 10 acoustic drum triggers.

You could possibly get a mic level signal to cause it to trigger, but the unit is made to work with line level signals really.

If you ran the mic to a preamp first, then the preamp out to the D4, that would be ideal. You will probably want to have a noise gate between the preamp out and the D4 input to help alleviate false triggers though.

Ideally, the best way I have used the D4 for triggering is to record a drum track, edit out all background noise on the track in a DAW, and feed that editing track to the D4. This way, I can MAKE SURE that NOTHING but the drum hits I want trigger the module.

Sonusman, just out of curiosity: is a trigger signal line level? Thanks, Andrés

I can't be too specific on this (sorry) cause' I can't remember the details but once I recorded a band and the drummer wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed. The singer had a Dm5 and we hooked it via 1/4" too the inserts of the 32-8. He did something with the buttons and then voila.... the recorded drums were triggering the the Dm5. It worked quite well accept for the fact that everytime he did a drum roll on the toms, it sounded like a drum machine(though that's what it really was).
