Trigger to midi help

Hey guys,

I am having a hard time making my Alesis DM5 generate userful midi data (from external drum triggers).

My purpose for the DM5 is to convert the drum trigger's signal to a midi signal that will be used by my sampler. However, all the DM5 sends is very very very short bursts of midi data. The note duration seems to be so short that my sampler can not even use it.

I can see that my sampler is receiving midi signals from the DM5, I can see that it is generating the right note -- but my sampler refuses to fire the sample due to (I think!) the note duration being too short.

I've been through the DM5 to see if I can make it generate longer midi notes, but I didn't really see that ability.

Is there something I am completely missing when it comes to external drum trigger to midi conversion?

Thanks!
Frank

Open up the release on your volume envelope. The length of the midi note has no impact on how the sample is played back unless you have it set up that way

I have recently acquired a DM5, and experienced something similar to the short bursts of
data you describe. I am using a midi device to trigger the DM5, which in turn is sending
the MIDI data on to my PC for recording in a MIDI track. In order to get the data from
the DM5 to the computer I had to enable MIDI Thru on the DM5. I then recorded some
drumming. On playback, however, the DM5 sounded as though the entire track was playing back at a million miles an hour. To cut a long story short, I ended up having to turn MIDI Thru off for playback; after that the playback was fine. Don't know if this issue is related, but I offer it up in the hope that it might help.
