Damned if I do
Here my latest mix of one of Jamie's new songs.
Being a drummer I try not to mix the drums too loud, so maybe I'm being too cautious. I have the drums on their own bus, so bringing them up should be easy enough. Thanks!Dogman said:Actually sounds really upbeat. I know it's not a final mix, but...Drums could use more volume, or something. They sound good, just in the back a bit. Bass sounds really good.
Cool song dude....![]()

Thanks for the comments! As for loudness, I already sullied it a bit with limiting and the Wave Hammer. Mastering is a foreign beast to me, so I did the best I could without completely destroying it! And I really don't like 128k mp3!ido1957 said:This is a great mix - everything sits pretty well and I can make out everything ok. Your drumming really rocks and drives this song along. Pass along my compliments to Jamie and Kim - excellent job too.
This reminds me of Rocky Horror Picture show - not necessarily any tune from that show but maybe just that musical theatre genre. Really upbeat and movin' - again the drums just "do it".
Nice fade at the end. One tiny thing - I have my PC speakers/Windows Media cranked, and so I would say this could use a bit more volume. Not condoning loudness wars mind you.
You're the first to ever notice that I mix from drummer's perspective. Good ears!!! I agree about the approach for raising the drums - the overheads are plenty loud. I'll also try easing back on the snare comp. Thanks!LemonTree said:I have to agree with the rocky horror thing...sounds a bit rock opera which I like. It's a fun tune, well recorded and mixed. Nothing jumping out I don't like. I'd bring up the snare AND bring the whole drum buss up, excluding the overheads. The snare might be overcompressed making it sound a bit too processed
Are you a lefty drummer or a backwards mixer?![]()
I like this a lot, the piano really works. Good job!
