Sorry, I accidentally converted this to the lower res mp3, not 320. My mistake, but at work and can't change it right now.

Here's a newish mix I completed a couple months ago. Still unmastered so it's quiet, mind you. Bill Murray is featured on this track.

Written by my bassist. His vox are on all verses and first lines of choruses. Guitarist sings rest of chorus passages. BG vox are the whole band tracked 4 times and panned hard r/l. I'm on drums and percussion. Tracked and mixed in my home studio.

57 snare top (neve pre) and bottom (digi pre)
akg d112 kick through tube pre
57 on rack tom through digi pre
apex mics on ft's through digi pre
cad pencil condensor oh's spaced pair through dual tube pre
2 apex room mics through digi pre
apex hat mic through digi pre
57/421 combo on Mesa Triple Rectifier combo amp (dbl tracked) through tube pre
Golden Age R1 Active Ribbon through neve pre on guitar leads (dbl tracked) and on guitar solo
AT 2050 ldc on vox through neve pre
Golden Age R1 Active Ribbon on percussion tracks through neve pre
West Edge Custom Bass guitar (active) di through neve pre (split in PT into two signals - one with Ampeg amp sim and the other with a big muff through a 70's fuzz)
Siren (intro) and marching (re-intro) downloaded free online and mutilated beyond recognition
Mixed in PT9 with a console emu and various stock and third party plugs. Mostly emulations of analog gear.

Still "new" at doing this (at making an effort at it anyways) haha

Sounded pretty good.

I thought the bass was a little low in the mix. It tended to get dominated by the guitars.

Guitars sounded ok, but (personal preference thing) I like just a little more bit to them.

I thought the first two lines of the lead vocal had a little weak delivery. Could just be me. But I thought the first two lines of the song were a little tentative (performance-wise).
 
Agreed on the bass.

From what I could hear of it, the tone was really, very nice. I guess this, West Edge Custom Bass guitar (active) di through neve pre (split in PT into two signals - one with Ampeg amp sim and the other with a big muff through a 70's fuzz), helps!

Entire bass guitar too low as a whole or just the low end of the bass? You may think it's getting covered but it's distortion is all part of the tonality of what you are perceiving as just the guitars. Could be it.

As for the vocal lines, (shrugs shoulders), that's just the way he always sings it. lol. Rockabillyish or something. Same with second verse on those first lines. Anywho thanks for the input man!
 
I disagree on the bass. It doesn't sound like the bass is doing anything that really requires it to stand out, so a low, supplemental mix for it makes sense to me.

Some of the vox in the chorus came off a bit buried, especially the non-gang shouts.

Overall, it's good mix though!

Tried raising up the bass track just for shits and everything just got too muddy. Even after a db louder, it buried the guitars so the initial is where it will live. Only other change I made was a little more 100 hz (or so) punch on the kick. I will take a look at those chorus vox and perhaps ride that fader a little more before I mix it down for mastering.
