Hi!

I treated my mix room (11 X 9,3 X 8,6(H)) a "little" ,with 6 2X4 4" rockwool (4 on the front corners and 2 on the rear wall/ceiling (I have a door on this rear corner, and it´s the best ("large") dimension of the room).
Altough I yet have almost the same peaks than before (120/130, 280 hz) and dips (but less than before, on 110/220 hz), it´s impressive how the treatment helps to clean the low ressonances and improve the bass decay(or reverb?) and the stereo image too. It´s interesting that the issues on these frequencies seems to be yet more noticiable without equalization, but, now, I´m happy using a parametric eq , seems really works, and different than before (when I used the eq too, with bad results), now I can hear exactly what is the bass drum and the bass, for example).
I´m working on the 38% of the (front) wall, the monitors have rear "low port"
and are 20 cm far from a window (this space between the window and monitors is untreated yet) and are equaly distant of the side walls (untreated too).

Questions:
1)Altough a eq seems to be the only way to go to reduce the peaks, panel traps centered on ~120 can helps or need I more boadband absorbers (or this peaks are "acoustically untreated" due the bad dimensions of the room)?
2)How Is the best way to treat the space between the monitors and the front "window"?
3)And the side walls?

Thanks

Ciro

You may be able to tweak the response a bit more by fiddling with monitor distance from the front and side walls. This can seriously change the bottom end response so use it to your advantage. Couple this with some panels directly behind and directly beside your monitors (on the walls) and this will help minimize the boundary interference response.

Tks for the reply , Bryan.

My monitors are only 5" woofer and are too close from the front "window".I´ll try all the front/side possibilities with the monitors as you suggest. As a bigger distance from this "window" and the "38%"
will put the monitors too close by me , maybe the "62%" can be a good option ? (well, this way I can "open" more the monitors...)

I have only 1 panel (2'X7') .I did this panel this way (what you "see"): 1/4 plywood,1" air , 1" rockwool , 2" air and a 1/4 plywood on back, tottaly sealed).Seems to absorb very well 90/100 hz, but the "120/130" still strong.

The panel besides and behind the monitors you talk about can be this same plywood type?

This panels can work together with the absorbers that creates the reflection free zone?

So many questions, I know... :D

Thanks

The panels behind/beside should be something more like 4" soft absorbtion - no plywood. We want them broadband and you could stand the extra HF on the front wall. If you don't want it, you can just use FSK bonded to the front.
