Hi All,

I am traveling all over the place and am not able to carry to much stuff around.
I would like to start again doin music (like old school EBM), but I need some advice about equipment. I have an Macbook Pro (late 2009) and thats it.
I think I will buy Cubase as well as NI Komplete. This should be a good start regarding software. Any thoughts about that?
My question is now, what kind of portable audio device should I buy?
I have seen the motu traveller mkII but this is still pretty big isn't it?
Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.

In addition I think about the new macbook pro with thunderbold interfaces.
Do you have any experience with that kind of interfaces?
Could I use a thunderbold harddrive as a working harddrive?

Thank you so much.

take care,
Felix

How many tracks do you want to be able to record at one time? What are you recording? What is your budget?

Free software: Reaper.

You'll need, at a minimum: microphone(s), headphones, interface.

How many tracks. How portable? Laptops are a lot of pain on location. Just one automatic update away from lugging around an expensive paper weight. Plus the whole table thing, plus boot and shutdown times. Battery life and other issues (can't see the LCD in sunlight).

My mobile rig for now is a Korg MR-1000 (2 channels of audio). A mic stand and a stereo pair of mics. Plus cables. And I've got two SD MM-1's in there for better sound and to distribute battery life a little better. 4+ hours of set it and forget it capacity. And an FH1 for video. But it's more of a trainer type camcorder IMO. One person, one trip, but it's kind of bulky and heavy for lugging around for a duration. Shorter cables help with that. And battery power takes away the need for extension cables and such. But it really depends on how portable you want/need to be.

Some people consider a 24 channel mixing board portable. Wheel it in on a dolly, prop it up between two chairs and off to the races. Not me though.
