Tranzport - anyone tried one?

Theyre alot of fun. I had never used one until a customer sent his to install on his DAW a few weeks ago. I got used to it really fast and now I want to get one for myself. With Sonar6 it semed to work perfectly, barely any setup needed and it was working correctly.

Love mine, use it all the time. Works great in both Cubase and Sonar.

Glad to hear that, it looks like exactly what I need, but almost too good to be true kinda thing. The $200 tag for essentially a universal remote is a leeettle bit of a gouge IMO but there again I can see myself using it all the time. Seems simple enough to throw in the kit bag and take to 'buddy's' place too... :)

It's a lot more than a remote. Communication is bidirectional. You can see the time code on its display screen so you can tell where you are. You can go across the tracks and see track settings like whether record/mute are enabled. My favorite feature is the ability to set markers and jump to the markers.

I used to use a wireless trackball as a crude universal remote. The Tranzport is amazing by comparison.... :)

yeh, i've used the tranzport once, seems like an awesome piece of kit to be honest! and a semi-decent price to boot.

what i want (also from Frontier Designs) is this:

AlphaTrack-large.jpg

and for $200, i reckon thats a pretty decent price as well!!

i can imagine something like that being a bit of a bitch to get used to, and i doubt you'd find it made you work faster at first. but i bet when you Did get you used to it, it'd be very useful indeed!

Yah, the 2-way part is the selling feature for me too, but for some folks everything else could/is pretty much acheived with macros and F-buttons on a wireless keyboard (with enough money left over for a second video monitor, heheh). Don't get me wrong, I intend on getting one, but I still think $200 for a simple interface (that adds no qualitative functionality, i.e it ain't gonna sound better) is more than it perhaps should be - and yes R&D yadayada, but I fully expect 'clones' of this non-patentable idea to appear for this reason. Kudos to Frontier for recognizing the need though! :)

Wow.

Words fail me.

$$60,000???? whoa... at the studio we use the Tranzport with the Pro Tools system perfectly fine... I wonder if anyone has ever bought that.... $60K... ridiculous..

for 60k I meant the d-control thingy

I think $200 is dirt cheap for all that unit does.
Agreed, hence the "Wow - words fail me"... :D

Easily the #1 $200 I do not regret spending......

i dno..i mean you get a mototrised fader, buttons to access all your different mix/edit windows, buttons for the different write modes, transport, a special touch-pad ribbon thing to allow you to either shuttle or scroll, as well as stuff like pan and aux send knobs.

And for the price, there isn't a single control surface that will do the same thing. the Behringer flying faders unit is alllmost there, but not quite, and the Faderport (presonus) is almost there, but both of those units cost the same as the Alpha track and have lesss functions (yeh the behr has got more faders...:( )
