I was just given a Roland Vs 840, one of the earlier ones.......there is no USB out, just audio out. How can I transfer my multitrack songs into my PC? Can I go from audio out into my computer's mic/line input? What would be a good software to convert my songs into audio files that I can store in my computer as wav/mp3 files and send? Are there any good free softwares? Would appreciate any tips - thanks!

If you have a stock soundcard it will almost certainly sound like poop to just plug the recorder straight into the mic/line input.

One of these and a copy of Audacity will make it possible to transfer audio without any perceptable loss.

If you don't mind paying $40, there's a shareware audio/midi sequencer that's superior to Audacity in every way called Reaper. Once you download it you have 30 days to see if it suits your needs before paying the shareware fee.
