I have several WAVE files I want to move from my old, crappy, Win 95 running, no CD burner having, piece of garbage computer to a laptop. How can I hook them together so that I can access the hard drive directly? Can I run a USB cable right from one to the other? Or something like that?

If you have a network card in both computers you can set up a simple network or you can just connect them directly to each other...but you need to use a crossover netowrk cable for that.

You cant connect it directly with usb without some 3rd party software or hardware...such as this:

or this:

You can also get an external cd burner or hard drive.....thats about it.

The cheapest /easiest/fastest option is the network....thats if you have the cables or the access to some.

Thanks for the quick responses. I was looking at the site crankz1 suggested and the parallel port connection seemed like an easy way to do what I want. But then I got to the bottom of the page and read this:

You may have decided to use DCC to avoid the installation of a network, but for a Windows
system, the software setup/configuration of a Direct-Cable-Connection is part of Networking
(although it may not be visible as part of networking)

The installation and operation is similar to Ethernet and "Modem" networking and involves setting up:
- Network Client
- Network Protocol
- Network Server ("File and Print Sharing")
- Network Adapter: your serial port COMx or printer-port LPTx.

What does this mean? Would it affect what I'm trying to do? Could I just hook them together through the parallel ports or would there be more to it. If so, what? Thanks.

Basically what it means is that you will in essence be using networking protocols with the DCC (direct cable connection), though it may not show up as a network connection under My Network Places or Network Neighborhood.
It should do just what you want. You just need to follow through all of the links and instructions for setting it up with whatever operating systems and cable you are using.
In all honesty, I have no firsthand experience in using DCC with different OS's as I'm on a LAN via 10\100 and FireWire connections in XP home solely. My FireWire connections are DCC, but all my machines run XP so it was just a matter of a simple wizard setup.
The way I read that site .... it is possible to do exactly what you want.

I would advise AGAINST using the parallel connection to transfer LARGE WAV files.

Being that it is going to take you DAYS to transfer.

Its used for printing...not transfering gigabytes of information.

(were talking 2MB a MINUTE!)
(9MB if you use Bi-directional cable)

Win95 is gay about DCC.

Easiest way is the ethernet networking option.

DCC link for win95 gayness
