Hi. I am trying to transfer a 4 track cassette master (from a Taskam 414 Portastudio) to a wav file using a two channel Edirol Interface and Reaper Software. The thing I'm stuck on is how to trasfer it in stereo. Because my regular line out is not working on my Taskam, I'm using my headphones jack as an output from my 4 track with two 1/4 inch, left and right connections to the inputs in my interface. I`m using two tracks on my software (left and right) but it still comes up `flat` when I play it back. Do I need to hard pan left and right in Reaper. Do I set my interface to stereo or mono. (My question marks aren`t working so I`m settling for periods)

Anyone with any input would be greatly appreciated!

Wow, a bad 'line out' and '?'. You are having a rough time there. :/

Yes, you will want to record the Tascam out to two mono channels and pan them hard L/R. :D

Does the porta have effects sends that you could use as outputs?

just a thought.

Thanks so much you guys. That's all I needed. That was quick

...and just to confirm, (if I use mono and hard pan them) that'll make the placements of each track (as they appear left and right) exactly as they are on the 4 track, right?

Thank you again. This has been a bit of a pain-staking process. But definitely an, albeit unneccessary, labour of love. : )
