Hi guys, i have a small issue I'm hoping to get some assistance with.

I have a box of old 4-track cassettes that i recorded years ago on a TASCAM 424. I no longer have the 424 but would like to move these tapes to protools. Is there an easy way of doing this?

The only option i can think of is recording the backwards tracks (side B) and reversing them in PT. I'd still have to try to synch everything up.

Anybody have any experience with this sort of thing?

Thanks for any help.

Unless it's only a song or two, far easier to find an old 4 track machine, have it serviced, and then bounce all 4 tracks at once. The post syncing problems can be horrendous.

That's not to say you cant do it. Digital time stretch/shrink is unbelieveably good at doing this, but you still need a lot of time and patience.

Also if you recorded with dbx it will sound like shit without the proper playback decoding. Another possible reason to find the correct playback machine.

The analog forum guys will be happy to help you locate a good 4 track machine. Perhaps even borrow or rent one. I'd help you out but I'm in Australia.

Cheers Tim
