less is more
I'm in austrailia so I don't know about prices if you are in the U.S. But you say that you need enough for drums. It would be good to know just how big the kit is.Ihave been a drummer for 20 years and the best drum sounds i have gotten have been my 1880 and just 4 or 5 mics .I recorded a 5 pce kit with kick mic snare mic (top &bbb bottom and 2 over heads.I have good mics but the most important thing is a pair of over head mics the same make and model and just play with positioning, pan them hard left and hard right .this gives a nice wide stereo image of the whole kit ,then just use your E.Q. to fill them out try to use as little as possible. Also the compressors on the 1880 will help control the dynamics but try to use them to just catch the peaks so you don't destroy all that work you have done positioning your mics, expect to spend a lot of time positioning. If you want a more punchy tom sound then another mic close to the toms might help but if the kit is sounding and the room is sounding good then you will find that less is more. Also a room mic placed away form the kit can realy ad some depth to the drum mix....But trust your machine because they do sound good
