tracks get out of time when sub mixing

Hey everyone,
As a way to "learn my gear" i've downloaded some multitracks from mixoff.org and decided to work on mixing on my new yamaha N8. Due to channel count and the way I think I decided to sub mix sections. So, I four drum mics to the four mono channels, mixed them down to a stereo track in Reaper and it worked swimmingly. That is, until I played it back and it was out of time with the rest of the tracks.

Is this normal? Am I doing something wrong? (I really hope I've explained this well enough.) Thanks for your help.

Nate

Bits wont change the timing. sample rate will.

The only thing I can think if besides that would be if you mixed the drums down from a point on the timeline that is the beginning of the session.

In order for everything to line up, all the files need to start at the same point on the timline.

I didn't change the sample rate or the bit depth. At least not knowingly. I may be working at a different rate than the .wav files were recorded but from the time they hit my system they haven't changed.

I just went to the beginning of the song, recorded a snap onto every track, and now I can double check that everything stays in line. It's frustrating to have to do it, but it works. Thanks for the replies. It's nice to finally have a rig to work with instead of asking hypothetical questions about rigs I am looking at. :D Thanks again everyone.
