I'M BLESSED.......
How many of you track your "own" vocals?????
I sing a lil bit and I find it rather difficult to focus on two things at once. Any tricks as far as how you do it?
I actually have my son down stairs with me hitting buttons.....lol
I know that everyone is not an artist, beatmaker, or just a producer, wrapped in one so you may not have this problem. I consider myself more on the producer side of things (I think!)

But share your experiences, I need to learn a trick or two!

I have my mic setup within a few steps of my keyboard and mouse so it's not really too hard. If I mess up, I just take 3 steps over to the PC and hit delete and record again then back on the mic. My room is pretty well treated for tracking and mixing, only noise I get really is PC fan but that's so minor it's not an issue to me. But these days after Hurricane Katrina it's almost impossible to record in the day time because we still have a lot of construction still going on.

I have the same setup as mentalattica. Right next to each other. I usually record the vocals all through the song instead of recording short segments so I can get more focused into the music and dont have to switch between engineer and vocalist as often. Do a couple takes of the song all the way through, take the best parts of each in the mixing, then if I really need to, I go back and record a few lines seperately. Best of luck

I do 99% of my tracking myself. I just give myself an extra 5 - 10 seconds of recording time to walk into the booth from the PC, and get situated. Then, I delete the extra recorded silence at the begining of each track during mixing.

Same thing I do. Just give it a few seconds before hand, and you'll be ok

If you rap and are the only one to record yourself. Set it up like a radio station. Have your mixer, and mic upclose... One problem is noise from your computer. So try to keep the computer a distance away...

There are many variations of setups, so I know that requires different styles of recording. I see a HUGE difference when I record myself for collabo purposes, and when someone else is behind the board and I focus only on singing. I am one who needs to be focused on one thing at a time.....

word, thing is my recording pc is mad loud so i run a noise gate, and set the mic across the room and use the preroll function which counts bars before it initially starts recording.

Check the sig i have some old/new joints.

That's good info. I was planning on setting up either a nice large L shaped desk or splitting up two desks to keep it separate and keep the PC noise away.

i have either my "co-producer" (a friend) or my wife clicking record. before i had better gear like i do now, i just used to record right next to the computer. now i have a mic that pics up everything, so i record in my closet and run the cables around the corner to the computer room.

bless.

That's the one thing about a project studio, the noise. Any little noise from a fan, or outside will get on the track.

I have that tranzport controller, too...love it.

and to anwser your question: yes I do (see link in sig)
