I just picked up a Korg D16 for some home recording. I bought the unit from an out-of-state vendor and had it shipped to save on the sales tax (Shhh!). When the unit arrived it was clearly not new (dusty, dog ear'd manual, no warranty cards, sample songs deleted). The vendor is sending me a fresh unit but in the meanwhile I have been using it and have run into a problem that folks may shed some light on.

The unit sports a built in mic which can be sent to input 1 or 2 or turned off. This mic (when on) takes priority over anything plugged into input 1. A guitar input works similarly for input 2.

Problem: Despite having the built in mic turned off (switch) and nothing plugged into Input 2 I could not get a signal in 1 or 2 with an external mic (SM57) despite having no trouble getting signal when the same mic is plugged into inputs 3-8.

Am I doing something wrong, or could this unit be defective as well as "not new". I suppose I'll find out when the fresh unit arrives, but in the meanwhile I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this. Also, I'd appreciate any input (tips, etc) on the Korg D16.

Thanks
