track stacking?

Hey, i've got a mix that has about 30 tracks on it and i'd like to try to manage that number. For example... i'm happy with my drum mix which is 5 tracks, could i crunch all those into one in my project, or do i have to export that mixdown and import it?

The process of mixing down multiple tracks is called "bouncing." I'm not sure how to bounce in Cubase, but maybe knowing the proper term will help with your research. You can generally do it inside the DAW rather than having to solo the tracks you want bounced and export them.

30 tracks isn't really a lot... unless your computer is struggling, why do you want to do this and limit yourself further down the line? Keep 'em as they are.

Once you bring them back in and mute the other tracks, they're called 'stems'.

In the old tape days it was called "print to tape".

I always bounce down to one track per instrument, usually giving me about a dozen final tracks.

As long as you keep your originals (NEVER delete them!) you can go back and make changes.

Why would you bounce down to one track per instrument, unless your computer resources were seriously stretched?

yes, my computer was struggling with that many tracks, but don't worry it finally died on me. That and organization, i was using a laptop and it was getting painful jumping up and down and resizing/zooming all the time. i understand why studios use several screens during recording.
