track recording delays

Hello all,
A friend came to me with a problem of sound delaying for less a second from his sound system to his pc.

We hocked line out from sound system to his sound card line in the band plays and we recorded one track in cakewalk and it is ok then we play the first track and recorded track 2 at the same time . Saved our work and played the file the result is that the second track started to delay as it goes and after a while the tracks are completely out of synchro.

We did the same with Cubase and exactly the same delay happened between 1st and 2nd track.

There is a time deference in the 2nd track because it seems to take time (less than a second) to reach from sound system out to pc in, so the recording is delayed.

I need urgent help please how to get tracks in synchro, i have been searching for weeks and can't solve this yet
Thanks a lot

Hi, I answered this same post in another forum. The BBS rules ask that you don't cross post. Thanks

Cubase should be able to detect and offset recording latency (Cubase SX at least).
However, seeing as how the tracks become more and more out of sync as the timeline progresses, I would be inclined to suspect the clock source or sample rate.
Are you using a Soundblaster?
If so, set you your sample rate to 48kHz and leave it there until you master for CD.
If not, try different sample rates. It's quite possible that your soundcard operates at a set sample rate and recording at anything other than that rate will introduce track lag, due to the fact that the soundcard is being forced to do sample rate conversion on the fly. This is a notorious problem with Soundblasters.
You may even wish to try changing your clock source. Although, you may only have the option of "internal". In that case, play around with recording at different sample rates.
