Track not recording on Tascam 424 mk II

Greetings all,
My Tascam 424 mkII just started exhibiting the following problem: Track #2 will not record anything in "direct" mode. playback is fine, the meters read a signal when the input is switched to mic/line. all other channels record just fine, and track 2 records fine in buss R mode. What's happening here?

I just received a 424 as a Christmas present (purchased off Ebay as a working unit), and unfortunately it has the same problem as you have.

Did you have any luck solving the malfunction?
