How does one stop the bleed of one track to the next while multitracking on thier PC?

I am working with N-track and M-audio's Audiophile sound card on a PC (p3) with windows 98.

N-track addresses this problem, but it directs you to Windows Sound Control, and I don't seem to have access to this critter. Could my sound card software be blocking it?

Any input would be most appreciated. The whole thing is driving me mad.

I'm not sure I understand the problem your having. What is it you are recording, and describe the bleed. Between the Left and Right input there should be very very little crosstalk. More info please.

Thanks for getting back to me! This thing is driving me nuts. I'll try to be more specific.

I am recording a drum machine on track 1, then bass on track 2.

When I record the bass track, both the drums from track 1 and the new bass line end up on the new track (if I solo track 2 both instruments are there clear as day).

This cycle persists with each track totally eliminating any track separation.

Check to make sure that you aren't recording from the wav playback. if you do then it not only records from the line input but it also records everything that is being played.

Yes indeed, this seems to be what I'm doing. And I can't seem to stop doing it! Should I be looking at my sound card? Is it a function of the n-track soft ware?

I'm feeling like a complete moron here. I can't seem to figure out how to check to make sure that I'm not recording from my wav playback. any advice?

I wish I knew, I've never used N-Track... someone knows the solution... Maybe try posting this question in the N-Track forum.

I had This problem too, and it drove me nuts too! It's simple to stop, I will try to help you. Please mind i am mexican, and my Win98 is in spanish. I'll try to translate:

Find the mixer in your Windows Task Bar and double click it. Then go to the recording setup. You will find several sliders. If the WAV is selected, uncheck it. That's it. Well, at least it worked fine with me. I hope I made myself understood.

Saludos desde Mexico, amigos sonideros
