Hi Peeps...

I'm new to the idea of home recording... i'm a bit of a tech geek so my comp is pretty decent...

I've been playing for yeas but don't have the confidance to be in a band or anything and thought that this home recording malarky may help me get over it...

Just a quick question as to the best way to go about things....

I play Guitar (Epiphone Les Paul Custom) and Bass (Bass Collection... no sure of a model but it rocks!!) and was thinking about going for a Line 6 Pod.... and using cubase... sound card's not uber flash but it's decent enough and i'm gonna be upgrading the computer soon anyways... thinking about audigy 2 platinum pro...

but anyway... would this be a good enough starting point? computer - cubase - Pod combo?

Any help much appreciated... hopin this'll make me a lot better musician!!

you can get a lot better sounds if you mic the amp, but that will be much more expensive. (you have to buy a mic and a preamp)

also, if you are thinking about upgrading soundcards, do not get a soundblaster. They are crap for recording, becasue their converters suck. Look into m-audio soundcards or emu.

You must decide how you will be recording the rest of your istruments. If you're gonna do it all via SW then you don't need to go for the mother-of-all soundcards, but think specifically about drums (need to mic them?) at a later stage, and other instruments you might want to plug in. You might need a card with a few inputs, else you have to run everything through a mixer, and that becomes a little inflexible...
