Total Newb Question

I record mainly rock/jazz music and play all instruments myself and am recording myself. I currently use a Sony (sloppy) computer mic straight into the line in of my computer. I mic guitar amps and also use it to record the drums. I play Bass and keys straight into the computer as well.
This has worked for the short while I have been doing this, but I would like to improve.

What I would like to do is record two mics at the same time on seperate tracks, or one mic and one DI box in.

-Would I benefiet from a mixer or audio interface?
-What else would I need?
-Can I record two mics at the same time on seperate tracks?
-I would also like to use headphones, in more recordings.
(expample = hear a drum loop and bass line(pre recorded) and play keys or guitar over it and record.

I have been looking at the lexicon lambda, am I looking in the right direction?
Will I be able to record two mics on two seperate computer tracks at the same time?

As you can tell, I am very unexperienced and do not need anything too fancy, because I have been somewhat pleasent with what I have recorded so far.

But I would like to get better

thanks in advance for any help.

what software are you intending to use... that's the thing you need to decide first... some interfaces tend to work well with specific software... the Maudio for instance likes profools as they are owned by the same company... also you need to know what software "feels" good to you... you're not going to get much done if ya cant wrap your brain around it... an interface with mic pre's onboard makes sense for most people... i can recomend the tascams... that's what i'm using... along with cubase software... good luck...

Currently I am usuing Adobe Audition 1.0 - its old, but it was free and it gets the job done.

How can I record multiple tracks at the same time?
Is there a certain software program for something like this?

sorry i dont keep up with the freeware but someone will recomend some i'm sure... to record multiple inputs will require a mixer with an intyerface built in (recomend firewire) or a multi channel interface... oh btw i think reaper is high on the list for freeware ...
