Yo.
I'm curious as to what can be considered top of the line recording software. What do most studios use to record when using a DAW. I have heard about Steinbergs Nuendo, but what other ones are there?

Also, does anyone know where Nuendo can be purchased from?

OK so I've been using Cubase VSt/24 how does that compare?Obviously I would like to have the best options available to me as well as the best quality. Thanks Randy5235

In the Mac world it would have to be ProTools

Using PC. Runnin NT and Win 98, but Win 2000 would not be a problem upgrading to.

all the pros around here are using either 'pro tools' or 'logic audio'

A lot of studios are using NT 4.0 with Pro Tools but Pro tools is proprietary in that it requires you to use there hardware in order to use there software.

Some people love the Steinberg platinum stuff and will give you big arguments verses Pro Tools.

Vegas Pro gets a lot of votes on this board because of its ease of use and power but it doesn't do Midi. It is written with enhanced multithreaded code for NT if you use more than one processor though.

The most powerful software on average according to many sources (as well as my personal testimony) is Logic Audio Platinum 4.0. I personally do not use platinum, I use gold because I do a use for Pro Tools support. GOld costs 300USD

The biggest bitch i constantly hear about logic is "Awwww..its too hard to learn....the learning curve is too steep." Well it's time ot say WAKE UP AND GROW UP to all of that. Logic is as easy/difficult to learn as any other software and its infinetly more powerful. In the Musikmesse convention held annualy in Germany Logic consistently beats every competitor including Steinberg, Sonic Foudry and whatever other fledgling software decides to show up.

MIDI support in Logic is second to none. The native plug-ins are incredible, the interface sweet. I have only had it lock up on me one time and i know why it happened which makes me say that it is super stable.

As a computer based multi-tracker Steinberg's Cubase is good....but why settle for good? You asked for the best and Logic Audio is the best hands down, end of story.

All,

As an addendum to the above post: Logic Audio is the best unless you have the real Pro Tools...not the LE/digi001.

Cool. Thanks for all the input.

Do u know Logical Audio's web addy and where it can be bought online?

Yes, I've been in studio's that used Logic and it seemed great.

I got a copy and tried to install it at home but found it to be very difficult to set up. I couldn't get it working. I couldn't find an online manual either.

But once you get it working it's supposed to be great.
